Linguistic QA

Many factors impact linguistic quality. They include:

  • Who performs the translations (professionals vs. non-professionals)
  • Number of linguistic steps (one, two, or three)
  • In-country review
  • Use of tools (style guidelines, glossary, terminology list)

To ensure linguistic accuracy and consistency, Lingo Systems' standard process includes three separate linguistic steps. In addition to the normal translate and copy edit steps, we also perform a third proofreading step, which serves as an independent linguistic review of the target language deliverable. This extra step accomplishes two objectives: (1) ensures that the application or documentation "stands on its own" without reference to the English content, and (2) identifies any latent translation defects (spelling, grammar, and consistency).

Lingo Systems uses a different native-quality linguist for each of the three linguistic steps. These professionals are also subject matter experts, as appropriate. In the case of UI proofreading, the localized content is reviewed on a native operating system. This allows the linguist to confirm that the application functions as intended within the actual operating environment of the end user.
